About Me

I’d say I’m a creative, proactive and positive type of person who believes that believing you can achieve something is half the battle to getting to where you want to be, and from personal experience, usually when I get there I tend to look for the next hill to climb.  My own career journey has been varied and interesting, and peppered with right turns and unexpected diversions onto new paths.  I studied for my degree at York University as a mature student after reading the degree results in the local paper and thinking that I’d like one of those for myself!  Lack of A’levels, a young family and 10 years since leaving school wasn’t going to stand in my way.  My own work history can be revealed in an eclectic and disparate mix of Assistant Psychologist, Art Technician, Motorcycle Instructor among others prior to my current existence.  I hope that my own ability to flex, adapt and achieve change and progression might inspire others to chase after their dreams too.

I have been heavily involved from day 1 in the development and growth of Giraffe Recruitment and I’m proud to say that Giraffe has grown to a successful and award winning business.  My focus is in the Oil and Gas, Process, Petrochemical, Power, Nuclear, Construction and Utilities sectors, particularly in the UK, however we are expanding into global markets with recent new business areas also including commercial and engineering roles in UAE and North Africa.

This is a very exciting time in this industry despite the downturn in the world economy, I am convinced that this sector will continue to prove profitable and will continue to offer lucrative opportunities. I welcome contact from those looking for new jobs in engineering and for clients looking for a professional, ethical and friendly recruitment solution in this exciting and innovative sector.

The Blog

The Blog started as a bit of a creative outlet and has gathered momentum in its readership.  It gives me a great deal of satisfaction to be able to share some of the inside information and knowledge that I have acquired in the course of my work.  I don’t purport to be an expert, but suppose that I know a fair bit more than some others about the business of applying for jobs, writing CVs and attending interviews, and for those people I hope some of what I write about amuses, interests and enlightens.  Hence the Blog, it’s not aimed just at my engineering applicants, but holds relevance for all job seekers regardless of sector, and if some of what I say helps you along the way, then it’s a good job done.
